After reading and discussing with a group of friends a very inspiring book "The artist's way" I chose my artistic name - Leonis - (the brightest star of Leo Constellation) and began walking my personal path toward this wonderful world of imagination and expression.

Sculpturing, drawing, painting allows me to express my creativity like never before.

"The great Creator has gifted us with creativity, our gift back is our use of it"

Only late in my life I found this hidden gift inside me and now….
I just can't stop using it!

Some people believe they do not know anything about art but art to me is not complicated or difficult to understand. ART TO ME is anything that moves me, captivates me and calls me.

I like creating things that I've never seen before, that's why abstract is my favorite way to express myself. Still, there is always some form or figure on my paintings that the viewers can recognize.

I really enjoy listening to people telling me what "they" see and compare it with what I tried to express when creating.

I am, like everybody else, a mix of negative and positive energy. Sometimes, events around the world touch my heart and spirit so deeply that I use a canvas to release the feeling through shapes and colors. "Fire", for example, is an abstract that I painted as soon as I learnt about the terrorist subway bombing in London on July 2005. Something inside me moved my hand and made me paint the pain on the face of a woman surrounded by flames.

I do not plan my work. "Falling empire" is a painting that just happened when I was drawing with a brush the profile of an Indian Chief and chaos and the shape of destruction popped up when mixing some colors. A few long drops of paint spilled down and suddenly I turned them into devastating women carrying their babies, wandering in confusion through the faces of the souls of their dead husbands.

Some book authors also moved me to paint. "Energy Awareness" came to life while reading and learning to see the mysterious influence of the divine beyond my everyday routines and challenges.

I find it very relaxing to create an abstract using the same colors I previously used to draw and paint a geometrical shape, such as "Rachel's Vision" a commission I've got from a gentleman who wanted me to reproduce on canvas a composition his daughter had made with plastic pieces; a different and enhancing experience. I was only allowed to use colors chosen by somebody else.

While I walk my personal path toward this wonderful world of imagination and expression I also paint a huge "Thank you" for my husband George, my mother, teachers, other artists and many of my friends for their support and positive criticism.
